1.0 POLICY T he City of Greensboro grants paid time off for certain holidays for benefit eligible employees. Since a number of City work units operate 365 days a year, some employees will be designated alternate days as the recognized holiday. 2.0 PURPOSE T he intent of this leave is to provide for paid absences from work so that whenever possible employees may observe recognized holidays with their families as well as to maintain a competitive stance in the market for recruitment and retention of employees. 3.0 SCOPE This policy applies to benefit eligible employees. 4.0 DEFINITIONS 4.1 Benefit Eligible - Full-time and part-time employees who are eligible for coverage and participation in the City’s benefit programs in addition to legally mandated coverage. See the appendix document, Position Types on page 424. 4.2 Paid Status - Employee is actively working scheduled hours or receiving paid leave. 5.0 ORGANIZATIONAL RULES 5.1 The City observes the following paid holidays:

New Year’s Day Martin Luther King Jr’s Birthday Easter (Good Friday)/Spring Break Memorial Day Juneteenth

Independence Day Labor Day Veteran’s Day Thanksgiving Day (2 Days) Christmas/Winter Break (3 Days)

5.2 Each year, on a calendar year basis, the People & Culture (P&C) Department, with the approval of the City Manager, will issue a schedule of the day that will be observed for each holiday. See Holiday Calendar . 5.3 Each Department director shall post the department’s holiday schedule in a prominent place,. The department shall contact the IT Timekeeping System Administrator if the department holiday schedule deviates from the City designated holiday.
