These positions are budgeted within the supported program. NOTE: Regarding Overhires – Due to the in-house academy programs in the Police Department and the Fire Department, it is necessary to hire a group of trainees at one time. The total number hired typically exceeds the number of vacancies at the time the class starts. These positions are “holding positions” in which the employee remains until graduation or until he is assigned to a vacant full time position within the department. Overhire employee compensation is identical to that of full time positions. These positions are not budgeted. Funds to support these positions come from vacancy credit or other specifically budgeted funds.
