Work Place Tobacco Use Number: J-7 Revision: 4 Effective Date: 07-01-2018 1.0 POLICY T obacco use is prohibited in City buildings, parking garages, decks, and in City vehicles. 2.0 PURPOSE T he purpose of this policy is to eliminate work place exposure to second-hand smoke for employees and citizens and to comply with City of Greensboro Code of Ordinance adopted 8-21-0707-180 Chapter 10. 3.0 SCOPE This policy applies to all City of Greensboro employees, contractors and private citizens in all City owned or leased facilities and vehicles, except where superseded by City Ordinance or in the case of leased facilities, where controlled by the building owner or a tenant committee. 4.0 DEFINITIONS 4.1 Tobacco Use - The use or possession of a lighted cigarette, lighted cigar, lighted pipe, or any other lighted tobacco product and the usage of any electronic cigarette (e-cig or e-cigarette), or electronic nicotine delivery system (ENDS) and the use of smokeless/chewing tobacco. 5.0 ORGANIZATIONAL RULES 5.1 Designated Outdoor Tobacco Use Areas A. All designated tobacco use areas are public and open to all who use the facility. B. Designated outdoor tobacco use areas should be sensibly suitable for tobacco use so that second hand smoke will not reasonably contact non smokers, create a fire hazard, or create a negative appearance. All outdoor tobacco use areas will be located at least 50 feet from main entrances or exits to city facilities. C. Any designated tobacco use area will have appropriate signage to identify its usage as well as receptacles for tobacco use waste. D. Use of E-Cigs by employees will be restricted to designated tobacco use areas while on city property.
