(Special Note: At the Department Director’s discretion, and with the approval of the People & Culture (P&C) Director, immediate or other family may be construed to include others where the degree of closeness of the relationship to the employee warrants consideration as immediate or other family). 5.0 ORGANIZATIONAL RULES 5.1 Sick Leave Accrual A. The City will grant eight (8) hours per month of Sick Leave to full-time (FT) employees, beginning immediately upon employment. The City will grant Sick Leave to part time (PT) employees, beginning immediately upon employment as follows: four (4) hours per month to PT 20 employees; five (5) hours per month to PT 25 employees; or six (6) hours per month to PT 30 employees. B. Leave accrual for the first month of employment will be given if the employee has one-half or more service during that month (i.e., an employment date of the 1st through 15th of the month). C. Annual Leave for full-time (FT) employees over 240 hours as of January 31 may be converted to Sick Leave. Annual Leave for part time (PT) employees as of January 31 may be converted to Sick Leave as follows: over 120 hours for a PT 20 employee; over 150 hours for a PT 25 employee; or over 180 hours for a PT 30 employee. Annual Leave (page 193) D. Sick Leave will accrue without limit. At retirement from active service as an employee in good standing, unused Sick Leave may be applied, according to the provisions of the North Carolina Local Governmental Employees Retirement System, for additional service credit towards retirement, as well as service time with the City. 5.2 Transferred Sick Leave A. Effective February 1, 2023, a new employee who is employed by the City of Greensboro in a benefit eligible position and who comes to the City from a local or state governmental organization covered by the North Carolina Local Governmental Employees Retirement System (or compatible North Carolina state administered systems), may have the accumulated Sick Leave balance from the former government agency transferred to the City. The City will also accept the transfer of accumulated unused sick leave within five (5) years of separation from a prior Local Government Employees’ Retirement System (LGERS) employer. B. The employee is solely responsible for requesting a transfer of the employee’s Sick Leave from the prior employer as well as obtaining a certification from the employer and submitting it to the City’s P&C Department. This transfer and certification process must be completed within the employee’s first six months of employment. This certification must include 1) the
