The employee must perform specialized work in addition to regular job assignments. The employee is expected to perform the extra duties for at least 30 days. Supplemental Pay Number: D-14 Revision: 0 Effective Date: 12-01-2023 1.0 POLICY T he City of Greensboro awards supplemental pay to employees in job classifications requiring significant additional training and expertise in the routine performance of duties. 2.0 PURPOSE T he purpose of supplemental pay is to recognize and compensate employees who assume substantially different responsibilities, performed outside of their normal role for an extended period of time, while maintaining current duties and remaining in the same position and pay grade. Such jobs typically require significant specialized knowledge acquisition and demonstration of skills and techniques acquired through additional training. 3.0 SCOPE This policy applies to all full-time and part-time benefit eligible employees in designated roles. . 4.0 DEFINITIONS 4.1 Benefit Eligible - Full time and part time employees who are eligible for coverage and participation in the City’s benefit programs in addition to legally mandated coverage. 4.2 Accountability - Managers are obligated to accept responsibility for making, justifying and documenting fair, consistent, non-discriminatory, and fiscally responsible recommendations and decisions with regard to compensation. 4.3 Effective Date - An effective date provision explains that all actions shall be on a current basis except for actions to adjust salaries to minimum upon implementation of salary structure adjustments. The effective date of any salary adjustment is the beginning of the next pay period in which People & Culture (P&C) approved the adjustment after receipt and review of all required supporting documentation and electronic workflows. 4.4 At-will Employment - At-will employment means that an employer can dismiss an employee at any time for any reason, except an illegal one. Likewise, an employee can quit a job at any time for any or no reason. 5.0 ORGANIZATIONAL RULES
