1.0 POLICY I n accordance with the rules governed by the North Carolina Total Retirement Plans within the Department of State Treasurer, this policy is designed to establish uniformed procedures and outline internal processes for City of Greensboro employees regarding retirement. 2.0 PURPOSE T he City of Greensboro will provide membership to the North Carolina Local Governmental Employees Retirement System (NCLGERS) and retirement benefits for pensioned City employees, working more than 1,000 hours per year, subject to regulations established by the North Carolina Retirement System. The City of Greensboro is a participating member of the North Carolina Local Governmental Employees Retirement System (NCLGERS) and is governed by the laws, regulations, and policies of this system, as established by the North Carolina Department of the State Treasurer. Employees are considered retired from the City of Greensboro, as defined by the age and years of service requirement of the North Carolina Local Governmental Employees Retirement System. (A summary of all guidelines and benefits of the NCLGERS Retirement System are available in the Retirement System Handbook. Handbooks for both regular and sworn members are available through the Retirement System website at www.help.myncretirement. com .) 3.0 SCOPE This policy applies to all applicants and employees of the City of Greensboro. The information in the following definitions has been taken from the Local Governmental Employees’ Retirement System Handbook 2021 Edition. 4.0 DEFINITIONS 4.1 ORBIT – is the website ( www.myncretirement.com ) where an employee must register an account and contains information from the NCLGERS Retirement System regarding the employee’s beneficiary information, contributions, account summary, account statements, account history, benefit estimates, and application for retirement. 4.2 Disability Retirement – After five years of creditable service, a member who becomes totally and permanently disabled from the employee’s job, as approved by the NCLGERS Medical Review Board, is eligible to apply for disability retirement benefits. A law enforcement officer, firefighter, or rescue squad worker who becomes disabled as the result of injuries incurred in the line of duty will be eligible to apply for disability retirement regardless
