South Greensboro Area Plan - Public Review Draft - 9.25.25
Plan2Play Parks and Recreation Master Plan
Plan2Splash Aquatic Facilities Master Plan
The Greensboro Plan2Play Master Plan is a comprehensive guide for the planning and development of the parks and recreation system from 2018 to 2038. At its core is a robust community engagement process. The Greensboro Parks and Recreation Department identified a city-wide need for 400 additional acres of parkland by 2038 and prioritizes paved walking and biking trails, indoor fitness facilities, indoor pools, and public gardens. The Plan2Play plan’s recommendations center around three key themes: enhance, expand, and connect. Examples within the study area include enhancing Shannon Hills Park / Shannon Woods Park and Brown Community Park to meet all criteria for a Community Heart. Plan2Splash proposes a new aquatics facility as part of the future park on Short Farm Road just south of the study area, as well as a splash pad at Brown Recreation Center. Each of these recommendations are subject to detailed open space planning that would be required for implementation. The potential implementation of both of these plans in south Greensboro are explored on the next page. Draft The Greensboro Aquatic Facilities Master Plan, also known as Plan2Splash, is a strategic initiative by the Greensboro Parks and Recreation Department to assess and improve the city’s aquatic infrastructure. The Aquatic Facilities Master Plan builds upon Plan2Play. New facilities are recommended in areas with larger populations and limited access to aquatic amenities.
