03 Improve the flow of information between the City and the community. » Update communications guidelines to account for literacy, language proficiency, digital literacy, broadband and technology access particularly among seniors and immigrants. » Include traditional methods of communication, like postcard mailers, flyers and surveys to reach seniors and immigrants (using appropriate languages). » Provide time in event planning to account for outreach and translations to multilingual and intergenerational groups. 04 Seek participation and input from young people, non-native English speaking communities, and other groups not typically involved in the planning, volunteerism, and other programs that improve south Greensboro. » Engage youth stakeholders who are experiencing community challenges and can offer insights towards solutions. » Identify locations throughout the study area to target populations of non native English-speaking communities, to provide pop-up engagement and youth-focused activities. Crime Prevention and Community Appearance 05 Keep the community clean. Reduce littering and illegal dumping in the study area. » Implement a comprehensive litter reduction strategy that includes public education campaigns, increased availability of trash and recycling bins, and regular community clean-up events. » More consistently enforce anti-littering laws and collaborate with local businesses to maintain clean public spaces. 06 Reduce and prevent crime in the 8-square mile study area. » Support local youth centers and recreation that provide healthful activities. Existing programs include Safety Town and other programs offered by City Police Department, and out of school time programs including basketball offered by the Parks and Recreation Department. » Address crime by combining outreach and enforcement strategies. Outreach efforts might include community-based violence intervention programs, neighborhood watch groups, and public education campaigns. Enforcement strategies could involve evidence-based policing, increased patrols in high-crime areas, and collaboration with local organizations to address underlying issues. Draft
