NTMP The City of Greensboro Neighborhood Traffic Management Program

Truck Traffic The community has expressed concerns about truck traffic moving through neighborhoods and along some of the larger roadways. In south Greensboro, it is essential to strike a balance between safety, comfort, and quality of life for residents and supporting the needs of industrial and commercial operators, including those servicing local businesses and contributing to economic development. A key component of this balance is the effective management of freight traffic in the area. One potential strategy is to discourage through-truck traffic on select neighborhood streets by using signage, monitoring, reporting, and enforcement. serving destinations within the area are permitted by ordinance to use the shortest local route, restrictions on cut-through truck traffic could help minimize neighborhood impacts. The map on the previous page highlights several street segments that may warrant further consideration for such measures, guided by street classification and context.

(NTMP) provides a “toolbox” of temporary and permanent improvements to address safety, vehicular volumes and speeding concerns on neighborhood streets. More information on this program can be found on page 61 in Chapter 4 . While identifying qualifying street segments and applying to this program should be a top immediate action priority for south Greensboro, this plan identifies at least four street segments where posted speed limits need to be reduced in order to qualify. Residential streets that could benefit from traffic calming are shown on the map on the previous page (gray roadways).
