Program Guide Fall 2023

and support of my supervisor, A. Jean Jackson (retired Athletics Director), and other members of our athletics team as we developed these new opportunities. I'm also proud of so many different staff professionals who have grown and developed in Greensboro Parks and Recreation – individuals who we've hired that have made an impact and are doing great things here or elsewhere; and also students who we have worked with as interns, doing their practicum, or serving as part-time employees. Q. Of everything the department offers, what are some activities that you participate in? I love being outdoors, and I really enjoy our parks, gardens, and trails. The variety of what we have is incredible; our opportunities today are a result of decades of thoughtful and strategic leadership and strong community support for Parks and Recreation. I enjoy getting outdoors and taking advantage of that, and my dog does, too. Saturday mornings, I love to go to the Greensboro Farmers Curb Market, which is operated by a key partner agency of Parks and Recreation. It’s important to support and shop local, and I like how the market is committed to local producers.

I also enjoy supporting the various events and activities offered at our facilities throughout the year. Q. What are you most excited about working on right now? One project that I'm so excited about is the Windsor Chavis-Nocho Community Complex. Featuring so many essential services and innovative, multigenerational programs, it will be transformational and really become a model for the future of City services including parks and recreation and libraries. Having the opportunity to work together with the Greensboro Public Library, other partners, and community stakeholders on this impactful project is a wonderful experience. I’m also excited that we are examining our swimming pools as a part of a master planning process, as our pools are aging and in need of significant upgrades. Also, several of our neighborhood parks – including Hampton, Old Peck and Greentree – are slated for new planning efforts. Our neighborhood parks are the most accessible in that they are located in many parts of the city and are designed as spaces for people who live nearby to be able to come to. I'm eager to see us invest more in these facilities and encourage more community collaboration and conversations around what these spaces could look like.
