Greensboro Plan2Play Parks and Recreation Master Plan 2019

GREENSBORO PLAN2PLAY MASTER PLAN - 61

Future Gaps Greensboro’s population is expected to increase by approximately 16% over the next 20 years. Using the same benchmarks provided by NRPA, the gap analysis was also performed using the expected population in 2038 to understand future needs in the community. Figure 39 details the projected 2038 surpluses or deficits in the community. Figure 39 displays the continued need for senior centers in the community over the next 20 years. Outdoor basketball courts show a continued need through 2038, based on the courts the Department has in

their inventory. Indoor and outdoor aquatic centers continue to show a need from the facilities the Department has access to; however the need is potentially still fulfilled through similar external service providers in the community. Tennis courts show a need from a parks and recreation perspective in 20 years; however, similarly to the other assets, this need could be filled through similar external service providers in the community. It is important to note, the similar external service providers located in the community vary in terms of the level of access the public has to these facilities and their affordability; this is especially true for

private facilities. As a result, a further analysis would be required to determine which outside existing service providers are accessible or not to the public.
