e Incorporate the removal of invasive species into regular maintenance needs for parks and drainageways e Integrate STEAM programming into at least one facility to create a flexible learning environment that merges science, technology and the arts. e Add environmental education programming, such as NRPA’s Wildlife Explorers Program, to pilot recreation centers around the city. Identify key areas for land acquisition near existing parks, gardens, and greenways that can extend the impact of natural systems. e Develop plan to inventory and update tree canopy database for location, species, and size of trees in regional parks. e Create a new senior center or convert an existing recreation center to accommodate senior services in western Greensboro (Refer to Connect: Make Greensboro Accessible). e Complete renovation of Caldcleugh Multicultural Arts Center and implement Xperience programming. e Add youth focused amenities to all recreation centers. e Begin implementation of the Battleground Parks District Master Plan. e Identify and begin renovations to community heart candidates based on geographic location, capacity for additional programming and upgrades, and proximity to other civic institutions. Priority candidates for community heart conversion are Windsor Recreation Center and Nocho Park, Peeler Recreation Center and community park, and Smith Senior Center and community park. e Incorporate youth programming for children ages 0 through 5 in all recreation centers and in parks. e Extend the hours of several recreation centers with open programming to encourage play into the evening hours, geared towards teens. e Launch and pilot three transformational new programs to test out new areas. Do not be afraid to fail, and replace if needed! Seek community partners such as local higher education organizations to assist. e Create a central special events calendar online. e Continue to engage an outside facilitator / qualified strategic planning group with significant experience in recreational practices/ national trends to guide Plan2Play implementation. e Create a data-driven staffing plan for the CRS Division to address future programming needs.
