Greensboro Plan2Play Parks and Recreation Master Plan 2019

124 - FEBRUARY 2019

Action 5d. Create transformational program pilot projects at each recreation center. Recreation centers are embedded within the heart of communities and are geographically distributed across the City of Greensboro. As existing centers of activity, and as receptacles of community hardships and triumphs, these centers are the perfect place to test out unique and innovative programs that are driven by community needs. Pilot new programs - Plan2Play proposes that each recreation center should identify one major issue affecting user groups such as food scarcity, financial literacy, obesity, or health and wellness and develop at least one program per center that seeks to address these problems in an unconventional way. These programs will benefit from being structured around partnerships, such as University faculty or non-profits organizations who may be able to leverage grant funding, knowledge, and resources to effectively implement ideas. It is important to note, that successful implementation of this concept will require additional program staff in the future.
