Gate City Boulevard Improvements Background • The reference to "Gate City" was given in 1891 when railroad served an important supply line and held a significant presence in the city. • Today, Greensboro is still known as the "Gate City", a transportation center and gateway to the West and the South. • Development and investment in the City, including the Greensboro Coliseum and $21 million Aquatic Center, continue to attract people. • Gate City is an 8.5-mile, east-west road that intersects with 1-73, 1-40 and US 220. It is a major connection through Greensboro.

Gate City Boulevard Improvements Background

• In the project area, Gate City Boulevard is a 4-lane road with grass median.

• The project area includes residential, small commercial/institutional uses and park space. • The City retained the services of Withers Ravenel in 2018 to develop plans to improve the mobility and use of the road. • Over an 18-month period, 75% design plans were developed.

Gate City Boulevard Improvements

At this time, the City has completed 75% design plansfor widening Gate City Boulevard, which includes adding bike lanes, curb and gutter and sidewalks from Willow Road to Florida Street, as well as adding a right turn lanefrom Gate City Boulevard onto English Street.
