Government

The Greensboro City Council is the legislative body of City government and includes a Mayor and eight Council members who serve four-year concurrent terms. The Mayor and three Council members are elected at-large and the remaining five Council members are elected from districts within the City. The Mayor is a

voting member and the presiding officer of the Council. The City Manager is appointed by the Council as Chief Executive Officer and is responsible for carrying out the policies and ordinances of the Council and administering the daily operations and programs of the City through appointed department directors and staff members. The City provides services to its citizens in the following areas: police, fire, transportation, waste collection and disposal, water resources, parks and

recreation, libraries, neighborhood development, public improvements and general administration. The City also operates golf course facilities, downtown parking facilities, government access cable television, and the Windsor Chavis Nocho Community Complex, scheduled to open in 2027.
