Jump Into Summer! It may be winter – if you couldn’t tell by all the coats being worn and the arrival of the holiday season – but it’s never too early to think about making plans to get your kids and teens into summer camp! As always the City of Greensboro’s Parks and Recreation Department is playing host to a slew of camps ranging from rec center day camps to week long camps for teens. So let’s take a minute to look at some of the things the department has to offer. Recreation Center Day Camp Looking for a place for your child (aged 5-12 years old) to spend some time making friends and enjoying an educational environment? The rec center day camp, which is available at nine City facilities, is what you need! For $100 per week – there’s also fee assistance available – your child will have the opportunity to enjoy activities including games, sports, wellness education, outside time, environmental education, creative play, and interest-based skill building. Free lunch is also served daily. Camp Joy An inclusive day camp for ages 5-and-up, Camp Joy is open to people of all abilities. Although not a therapeutic camp, campers are welcome to bring a personal assistant in accordance to the Personal Assistant Policy. The camp is located at Hagan Stone Park in Pleasant Garden, and offers five outdoor cabins, an activity building, an art cabin, and picnic facilities that will play host to a number of fun

activities for participants – with each week having a fun theme! Xtreme Teen Outdoor Adventure Week Finding a camp for your teen can be tough, but luckily the Parks and Recreation Department offers up something for those teens aged 12-15 with Greensboro’s only outdoor adventure week program. This program is for teens who are ready to test their limits with kayaking, hiking, climbing, and other outdoor recreation opportunities, and it will be based at Lake Higgins – there will also be trips to natural areas throughout the Triad. Teen Xperience @ Caldcleugh Another camp designed just for teens, the Teen Xperience @ Caldcleugh gives teens aged 13-15 the opportunity to engage with their peers while enjoying structured summer activities, including leadership development activities. Each week – through the nine week-long sessions –will feature field trips, swimming, and free breakfast and lunch. The camp is limited to 30 teens per week. Youth Sports Clinics If your kid or teen is looking for something sports related, the department puts on Youth Sports Clinics throughout the summer months. For children and teens aged 6-12 and 10-18, there are numerous sports – from lacrosse to golf to pickleball and more – to dive into.
