Petanque. The two permanent cornhole boards and score trackers were added to Keeley Park in 2020 as part of the park’s Phase II development. The department has seen a growing interest in the game during its annual Senior Game competition as well as recreational play at the Smith Active Adult Center. The petanque courts, cornhole boards, and horse- shoe pits are available for open play daily during park and garden hours.
When you are considering games you might play at a park, you probably think traditional team sports like basketball, baseball or volley- ball. But Greensboro parks have a lot more options for game play. Competitive types can try out our Hester Park horseshoe pits, the new cornhole boards at Keeley Park, or even our regulation-size petanque courts! Petanque is a French outdoor bowling game that is similar to bocce. The Tanger Family Bicentennial Garden is home to four regu- lation-sized courts – the only such courts in North Carolina, South Carolina, or Virginia when they frst opening in 2019. Carolina Petanque, a petanque club based in the Triad, has participated in the annual Parisian Promenade at the botanical garden since 2008. “Petanque is a game for all ages and can be played at both casual and expert levels while providing a fun, challenging experience for the whole family,” said Gary Jones, of Carolinas
