Discover Greensboro Fall 2024
Women Belong in Sports As women’s sports explode in participation and popularity in North Carolina and beyond, the City of Greensboro continues to ofer ways for women to get out and compete in a number of sports – including 3 on 3 basketball, slow pitch softball, co-ed kickball, and co-ed softball. “Women’s sports provide an outlet for women to experience community while engaging in physical activity,” said Monique Floyd, the City’s Athletic Superintendent. “It is the true defnition of women can have it all. Those that may be caregivers or homemakers get to continue that important task while also carving out a little time for themselves. All the while reaping the beneft of an array of experiences and life’s joys mentally and physically that help improve their quality of life.” In the women’s 3 on 3 basketball league, individuals can register and be placed on a team with other registrants, which is a great opportunity for women to be able to participate without having to be associated with a full team. As a part of registration, participants will be given their own uniforms and don’t need to bring anything other than appropriate athletic wear. The regular season will run on Mondays and Wednesdays from December to February, before being seeded for a post season tournament to determine a league champion.
Much like basketball, the women’s softball league will take a similar approach where individuals will sign up, be given a uniform, and placed on a team. The league will run in the Spring (from March to June) of 2025, and will see Greensboro area teams compete against other Parks and Recreation Departments from the surrounding area – such as Kernersville and Burlington. Registration will take place at the beginning of the year from January to February. Last, but certainly not least, co-ed kickball and co-ed softball are popular options that are available, though registration is by teams. Individuals are able to join a free agent list that provides an opportunity to be “picked up” by an existing team that registers. The Spring season runs from March to June, and the Fall season runs from August to October.
