When the Department Director and HR Director concur on the requested schedule change, the employee will be informed of the decision and may begin working the flexible schedule at an agreed upon date. 6.5 If after a review of the available information, the supervisor or manager determines the flexible such as hearing, seeing, speaking, breathing, performing manual tasks, walking, caring for oneself, learning, or working. 5.0 ORGANIZATIONAL RULES 5.1 Flexible schedules must not result in routinely scheduled overtime. The Human Resources Department is available to assist with designing schedules that meet this criterion. 5.2 Each Department Director will have the option of allowing or not allowing flexible scheduling based on the nature of the department’s services. 5.3 Each employee’s flex-time work schedule must be approved by his direct supervisor and Department Director or designee. 5.4 Adequate personnel, including supervisory personnel, will be available to carry out work activities without creating any loss in services to the public. 5.5 If it is determined that the flex-time option is hindering operations or is being abused, the Department Director may discontinue flex-time on an individual or work group basis at any time. 5.6 All general offices of the City that interact directly with the public or internal personnel are expected to be open and staffed each working day, Monday-Friday, from 8 am to 5 pm. 5.7 Departments are required to make all reasonable efforts to accommodate a request for a flexible work schedule from an employee with a known disability. 6.0 PROCEDURES 6.1 An employee who would like to work other than his current regular schedule should make the request, in writing, to his immediate supervisor. The request should include whether or not the requested flex-time is expected to be permanent or if the request is for a limited period to accommodate a personal circumstance of limited duration. 6.2 When the supervisor receives the request to utilize flex-time he will review operational schedules, previously approved flex-time schedules and other applicable information to determine whether or not to recommend the flex-time arrangement. If an employee is requesting the flex- time based on a known disability, the supervisor is expected to accommodate the request if at all possible. 6.3 If the supervisor recommends the request for flex-time, he will forward the request through the chain of command to the Department Director or designated manager.
