SUBJECT:

Water and Sewer Service Extensions outside the City Limits

In 2011 the Greensboro City Council and the Guilford County Commissioners cancelled their joint water and sewer agreement. The agreement guided how water and sewer service was extended to areas outside of Greensboro. The City updated its voluntary annexation agreement that landowners must sign before they receive water and sewer outside the city limits.

Applicants for City water and sewer must agree:

• To be annexed into Greensboro at a future date; • To meet City development and plan requirements; and • To have water and sewer lines constructed to all City standards

A portion of the City’s revenues from water and sewer extensions outside the City will go into an earmarked fund kept to help defray the cost of further extensions. Attached is the current Annexation Agreement. Also attached is the City of Greensboro Policy & Procedures for water and sewer extensions outside the City limits adopted April 3, 2012 (amended May 20, 2014).
