South Greensboro Area Plan - Public Review Draft - 9.25.25

Specific Park Improvements Each park will require a tailored improvement plan to guide specific enhancements, as outlined in Recommendation 2 of the Parks section. This will ensure that upgrades are responsive to community needs and align with overall park system goals.

01 Woodlea Acres Park » Upgrade playground equipment and ADA access. » Continue to selectively clear vegetation to open views along Largo Drive and Lakefield Drive. » Add signage and lighting (where appropriate). » Amenitize flatter areas. » Expand greenway connection to Woodlea Acres Park. » Adding parking might allow for greater utilization. » Explore on-street parking along Lakefield Drive if there is neighborhood support as long as accessibility is provided to park. 02 Brown Recreation Center and Park » Continue to acquire parkland at this location so that the community park can be expanded to one day become a regional park. » Consider mutual interest in land acquisition or partnerships with adjacent faith-based institutions. » Program or develop woodland. » Improve the entrance appearance (visibility, art, landscape). ○ Pedestrian crossing to connect across Vandalia would connect neighboring residential neighborhoods to the park. ○ Lawn space near entrance is underutilized, and may provide opportunity for additional parking, or other use, to better serve the growing park. » Plan2Splash aquatic master plan suggests splash pad in the future. » Consider trail connections to nearby church-owned properties, possible greenway network. » Explore additional connections to the park from adjacent neighborhoods. » Consider community center and parking expansion to meet growing demand.
