Recommendations Parks and Open Spaces 01 Apply Plan2Play to the study area Apply the Enhance, Expand, Connect framework of the Plan2Play plan in the study area. » Identify one or more candidates for Community Hearts in the study area as described in the Expand element in the Plan2Play plan. 02 Conduct Additional Planning for Implementation Maintain the momentum of this Small Area Plan by conducting key additional implementation-related planning and budgeting efforts. » Develop a placemaking and public art master plan for the study area, identifying potential projects, locations, partners, and funding. » Budget and staff for maintenance, to include but not limited to securing one or more Recreation Coordinators and 2 or more Crew Members to focus on needs specifically within this study area » Create park-specific plans for any additional amenities or upgrades. 03 Partnerships for Programming and Facilities Build on the plan’s momentum by forging partnerships that support programming and shared facility use. » Partner with Guilford County Schools to provide space for summer programming. » Explore the potential of a shared use open space with New Goshen United Methodist Church. 04 Fill in the 10-minute Walk-to-Park Network Identify locations for new parks to fill in the City’s 10-minute walk-to-park network. This measure is a nationally recognized accessibility standard, often used by organizations such as the Trust for Public Land to evaluate park access. » Explore potential parkland acquisition along with new annexations in the Southeast part of the study area (east of Pleasant Garden Road, which is a Growth Strategy Tier 1 in the 2040 Comprehensive Plan). » Pair future parks with fire or police stations where appropriate. » Consider new parks in the southern portion of the study area, south of the following east-west streets: Glendale Drive, Webster Road, and Humble Road. » Explore the potential of an ecologically themed linear park in the floodplain north and south of JJ Drive and east of Randleman Road; initiate a feasibility study and master plan to advance this concept.
