South Greensboro Area Plan - Public Review Draft - 9.25.25

09 Work with property owners to place security towers and/or parked police vehicles in areas with a high volume of traffic or crime-related issues. » Work with the Police Department to park a police car in the study area on a regular basis. » Create an initiative that involves the police department proactively contacting property owners to provide information on the usage of security towers and sign them up for the monitoring system program, if eligible. (See more information below.) » Link private on-site cameras, if compatible, to the City’s monitoring system, known as an “Real-Time Intelligence Center (RTIC) System.” (This is free-of-charge.) More Information about Security Towers » Due to their expense, security towers are often available for lease from private companies for a period of one or more months at a time. » If private on-site cameras are compatible, these can be linked free-of-charge to the City’s monitoring system, known as an “RTIC System.” This sharing of video feed is available today, and can occur via two paths: ○ Registration with the Police Department’s system allows City police to contact the camera owner if needed to see if footage of interest is available. This option maintains the privacy of the site as it is not otherwise monitored by the Police Department. ○ As an alternative, the camera can be connected to the Police Department’s monitoring system, allowing police to view the camera feed at all times. This option is typically used on external cameras. 10 Continue focusing code enforcement efforts in the south Greensboro community. Efforts to date have made a tangible improvement in the community. Continue this effort to include commercial properties along the Randleman Road corridor and beyond to identify issues and enforce remedies. » Partner with the Police Department to address new generators of suspected criminal activity. » Promote the Community Toolbox to community members to enable better residential compliance with codes. » Continue building collaboration between Police Department and Code Enforcement teams. » Consider implementing risk-terrain modeling, a geospatial analysis of risk in an area.
