South Greensboro Area Plan - Public Review Draft - 9.25.25

There was a strong desire for the City to play a more active role in shaping the future of the area, with a focus on the needs, cultural life, and priorities of the residents who already live and work here. Residents called for a unified vision that brings together land use, mobility, housing, economic development, and environmental planning in a place-based and community-led strategy. Alongside these challenges, there were also ideas for action. Community members want to see artistic expression embedded into public space, a renewed focus on cultural identity, and investment in youth engagement to ensure the next generation is part of shaping the area’s future. Others described specific sites they believe could be reimagined as community anchors or hubs for expanded services. People want to map out a future for south Greensboro that includes sidewalk and greenway expansion, transit upgrades, safer streets, parks, cultural institutions, and thriving businesses—all grounded in a planning process that values their input from start to finish. What emerged from the engagement was not just a single voice, but a collective sense of shared hopes and aspirations for the future. While this area plan builds on ongoing conversations, it has the potential to be a pivotal moment for positive change. The community is eager for meaningful investment, both in projects and in building trust, stronger relationships, and a shared vision. This plan offers the opportunity to honor the rich experiences of the community, and the ideas expressed, creating a path toward lasting, impactful change
