Space Matters People in south Greensboro expressed a need for gathering spaces where culture can be actively lived, shared, and celebrated. While the community values public spaces, many existing locations in south Greensboro do not always feel safe, welcoming, or comfortable for hosting meaningful cultural gatherings. Stakeholders described how such spaces are essential for hosting family reunions, celebrating births and graduations, marking important milestones, and coming together to share food, music, and traditions. These moments create a sense of belonging and help preserve cultural identity.

From event centers to multipurpose outdoor plazas, the message from stakeholders is clear: south Greensboro needs more safe, adaptable, and culturally responsive places where people can gather, celebrate, and connect across age, language, and culture.
Indoor spaces were noted as a key need. Venues that can serve as spaces for learning, support, and community programs, in addition to hosting both public and private events. Additionally, there is a desire for more recreational spaces that support sports, play, and social connection. Stakeholders emphasized a need for well designed spaces that are both functional and inviting, comfortable with covered pavilions with seating and tables for gatherings, playgrounds and soccer fields where children and youth can be active, and trails where people of all ages can walk, bike, and enjoy nature.
