Relevant Project Profile I-5965 Project: I-40/I-85 This is a proposed, unfunded NCDOT project to consider safety improvements to I-40 and I-85 Business at several interchanges, including Randleman Road and S. Elm-Eugene St. NCDOT’s stated purpose for the proposed project is to improve the traffic-carrying capacity of I-40/I-85 Business through Greensboro and to provide safer traffic operations by improving the deficient bridge number 329 on Patton Avenue. In 2016, NCDOT developed preliminary concepts for this project that included widening I-40/I-85 Business to an eight-lane divided highway. One option proposed removing the Randleman Road interchange and upgrading the South Elm-Eugene Street interchange. These changes could affect access, connectivity, and urban design in the area—potentially creating new opportunities for improvement that benefit the surrounding community.
