Senior Center Programs Smith Senior Center offers a
Other Youth Recreation Programs The Department also offers non-athletic youth programming for children between the ages of 12 and 18 years of age. The Greensboro Youth Council (GYC) is a volunteer organization for high school students that organize events and volunteer efforts that are youth-run and help to develop leadership and teamwork skills. Summer Night Lights is also geared towards teenage children, and develops similar leadership and team building skills. There are many opportunities to offer more of similar types of programs to encourage school-aged children to build new skill sets and expand community awareness. Rowing is also a quickly growing sport in Greensboro, especially for teenagers and seniors. The Department should continue to work with external service providers like the North Carolina Rowing Center to encourage growth in the sport for all ages in the city.

Instead, they rely on existing community buildings such as churches, which are not dedicated to year- round senior services programming. As a result, these providers have been excluded from the analysis of traditional senior center. Table 8 shows the programs offered at Smith Senior Center, amid a longer list of additional programs targeted to older
comprehensive range of programs. There are no gaps in programs being run at the Smith Senior Center in relationship to programs experienced in other facilities. For the senior center, the future challenge is having the facilities and space to continue to meet demand for the current and growing community in need of these services. It is also important to note that there are other existing providers in the community that offer services and programs for seniors, such as the Tolbert Senior Center
