through Department-owned properties. South and East Greensboro also contain significant trail mileage; however, these networks are less connected and often isolated within individual parks. While planned extensions of the Latham and Lake Daniel Greenway will help knit east and west Greensboro together, there is still room for improvement. As the city grows, trails can be an important component to enhance connectivity, multi-modal travel, and access to parks and recreation services. Considering the region’s population growth, 2038 population projections show a need for 103 additional miles of trails to serve the future community size. Current city holdings, especially in linear creek corridors, present opportunities for future trail growth and better connectivity. Furthermore, creek corridor trails can serve as linear parks by hosting unique recreational opportunities along the path for users to discover and enjoy. It is important to note that any future greenway or trail connections should align with the city’s 2015 Bicycle, Pedestrian, and Greenways Master Plan ( BiPed Plan ).
