Action 6e. Create or expand local non-profit, health and government partnerships Expansion of existing non-profit partnerships can include: Guilford County Schools - As arts funding is harder to come by, the schools can partner with the Department to identify needs and eliminate duplication for youth programming. During summer and after- hours, the Departments can also expand on existing shared facilities agreement. Police and Fire - Police partnerships with youth can create positive relationships and instill a sense of civic collaboration between police, firefighters and communities. The Department should work with the Greensboro Police Department to increase police participation in recreation programming in neighborhoods with high crime rates. The Department should also establish a communication protocol with the Greensboro Police Department to regularly communicate project updates, For signage, the Department should partner with the Greensboro Police Department to add emergency phone numbers on all park

• Create a "partnership roadshow" - Develop a "partnership roadshow" packet that clearly tells the Department’s story and vision. Package this both in print and presentation format to support new relationship- building. Conduct staff training as it relates to the partnership packet and implementation. • Build on a volunteer base - To begin to build more corporate relationships, Greensboro can build the volunteer segment by working with the private sector for parks support or clean- up days. Volunteerism is a strong foundation for a corporate relationship and gives a corporate partner the ability to demonstrate value and commitment to the Greensboro community. As relationships are forged, ensure that expectations for mutual benefits are clearly outlined in advance (see 6b).

There is also an opportunity to expand reading and learning in community centers and parks, and to share or co-locate facilities. Piedmont Land Conservancy - The Conservancy has partnered with the Piedmont Triad Regional Council to develop a regional trail network plan know as the Piedmont Legacy Trails. This initiative could bring millions in tourism dollars to Greensboro. The Department can build on the existing resolution of support with Piedmont Legacy Trails through the creation and collaboration of guided tours of historic landmarks and trails.
