TRANSPORTATION
Business & Parking: This division manages and allocates resources to carry out the department’s mission. This division is also responsible for operating City-owned parking facilities, administering the on-street parking system in the central business district and oversight of residential permit programs. Parking services are funded through the Parking Facilities Operating Fund. Transportation Maintenance: This division is responsible for maintaining 2,440 miles of city streets, thoroughfares and sidewalks. This division also coordinates the removal of snow and ice during winter weather events and collaborates with other departments in the removal of debris from city streets and thoroughfares following severe storms. Engineering: This division oversees the design of transportation projects, maintains all transportation regulatory and street signs and markings, manages the traffic signal system, and reviews development proposals to ensure compliance with City and State transportation requirements. This division is also responsible for oversight of the municipal street lighting system. Planning: This division prepares long-range transportation plans for all travel modes. Staff in this division administer the Greensboro Urbanized Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO), oversee the development of the Metropolitan Transportation Improvement Program (MTIP), and coordinate the allocation of State and Federal funding for local transportation projects through the state-wide strategic transportation prioritization process. This division coordinates the Vision Zero Initiative, the Micromobility program and supports the regional air quality conformity process and regional traffic demand modelling process.
