Senior Games Do you hear that sound?

To go along with the physical sports, participants can also compete in SilverArts events – the artistic portion of the Senior Games that includes heritage arts, visual arts, literary arts and performing arts categories. SilverArts winners are also eligible to compete in the state SilverArts competition in the fall. The GGSG is always well-represented at the state finals each year, and has a large contingent of athletes at National Senior Games as well. The department’s Active Adults staff serve in the state’s required positions for each local games, which includes the Local Coordinator, Jennie Matkins; SilverArts Coordinator, Teania Jackson; and Events Managers, Susan Farrelly and Andrea Sadler. GGSG also has a volunteer advisory committee made up of trained Senior Games Ambassadors, participants, and sponsoring agencies. Dates for the 2026 Greater Greensboro Senior Games:

It sounds a little like the Olympics anthem, though in this case it’s ringing out for those more senior locals who are readying for the upcoming 2026 Greater Greensboro Senior Games! For those who may not know, the City of Greensboro has been a proud participant in the Senior Games – hosting its first local games in 1986. Sanctioned by the NC Senior Games, the mission of the Greater Greensboro Senior Games is to promote healthy lifestyles – both mentally and physically – by encouraging seniors to practice and participate in their chosen events throughout the year. And trust us, there are a variety of events available, so there is something for everyone, which probably explains its explosion in popularity. Since 2023, the Games has had record-breaking participation each year – with 2025 marking its 40th year, and an attendance of 381 participants in athletic competitions and SilverArts. Those participants battled head-to-head in over 35 athletic competitions – including sports such as cycling, track and field events, golf, and table tennis – for Guilford County residents ages 50 and over, at 14 venues throughout the city. For each first, second, and third place winner in their age group there’s an automatic qualification for NC Senior Games State Finals each fall. Every other year is a qualifying year for National Senior Games (2026 is a qualifying year for National Senior Games in summer 2027.)
