Discover Greensboro Fall 2026

Featured STORY

“We provide a safe and supportive space where youth can engage with others, build meaningful relationships with teammates, learn the sport, and develop confidence both on and off the court.” The Youth Basketball League offered by the department is broken into three leagues: Co-ed League, Boys League, and Girls League – all of which are hosted at each recreation center in the City. The Co-ed League, for both boys and girls, offers play for ages 5-7 and 14-16, while the Boys League and Girls League offers play for ages 8-10 and 11-13. The draft dates go from November 30 through December 4, and games will run from January 16, 2026, through March 12, 2026. Form and any waivers can be found on the department’s website at www.greensboro-nc/gov/ sports. For early bird registration (which runs from September 8-30), participants get a special discount with a cost of $50. Regular registration (October 1 through November 15) is $75, and late registration (November 16-25) is $85. If your child has not participated in sports with Parks and Recreation before, you will need to provide a copy of their birth certificate and create a PAYS Account before they can register. Once the department receives those, a staff member will review them and reach out to let you know that you can continue with the registration. Children will not be allowed to play or practice until all forms are submitted. Registration form and any waivers can be found on the department’s website. Although winning is important (who doesn’t love to win?), the department does not emphasize it as a priority, as success in the program should only be measured by the skills a player develops and the amount of fun they’re having.

Youth Boys Basketball Glenwood Recreation Center

Youth Basketball Hoop Dreams! The state of North Carolina is known for many things – such as barbecue and being First in Flight (take that, Ohio!) – but fewer things bring about more passion in this state than basketball. If you grew up here, chances are you had a basketball goal, knew someone who had a basketball goal, or spent a ton of time at your local park to shoot some hoops. Knowing how big the love of basketball is in Greensboro and beyond, the Greensboro Parks and Recreation Department has kids in mind when it comes to offering up opportunities for local youth to hit the court and enjoy a game that means so much. “Our program is designed to create a positive, inclusive environment where every young person has the opportunity to participate, develop new skills, and experience the value of good sportsmanship,” said Erica Chadwick, the facilities coordinator for the department.
