BOG GARDEN AT BENJAMIN PARK 1101 Hobbs Rd. Bog Garden at Benjamin Park is an oasis of sorts – a green space in the middle of urban sprawl. Of the City’s four gardens, Bog Garden is where one goes for a little extra wildlife. The garden features an elevated boardwalk that winds its way through 7-acres of natural wetlands, where a variety of local wildlife and native plants can be enjoyed and appreciated. The property was originally part of Starmount Farms, but in 1987, when the land was set to be developed, it was discovered that the lake on the parcel had silted in and transformed the area upstream into a 15-acre wetland area. The land was then offered to the City and the man who helped identify its unseen beauty, Dr. Joe Christian (a local primary care physician) alongside volunteers and City staff helped build the garden into what it is today. Along with its natural beauty and boardwalk, visitors have enjoyed the serenity brought about by the

The most playful of the City’s gardens, Gateway Gardens is also the newest of the bunch – having been opened in 2011 (though planning for the garden began in 1999). Spanning 11-acres and sitting at one of the main entryways into the City, Gateway Gardens contains several sections of fun and playful areas, including the Michel Family Children's Garden, the Heritage Garden, Rain Garden, Gateway Plaza & Icon, and the Great Lawn. The visitor center that is onsite offers space for meetings, conferences, weddings, and more. This colorful, interactive space – featuring giant, brightly-colored apples, whimsical statues, and a variety of plants – is the perfect place for parents to take their children out on a sunny day to learn and have a fun time outdoors.
