ANNUAL REPORT 2025-26

Greensboro’s continued growth and economic success depend on a range of accessible housing options that meet the needs of individuals, families, and employers. Like other American communities, Greensboro faces increasing housing challenges driven by rising costs, limited inventory, and growing demand. The City responded with the Road to 10,000 initiative, a community-wide effort to expand the housing supply and support the development of 10,000 new housing units across Greensboro. The initiative brings together public, private, nonprofit, and community partners to identify solutions, remove barriers to housing production, and accelerate development opportunities throughout the city. The Road to 10,000 generated significant momentum and measurable progress in its first year. More than 3,200 housing units were completed or permitted, reflecting strong market activity and the impact of coordinated efforts to expand housing opportunities throughout Greensboro. The City also advanced new housing developments, strengthened partnerships with affordable and market-rate

housing providers, implemented policy and process improvements to support housing production, and leveraged public investments to encourage private sector development. The initiative’s first year demonstrated the value of a coordinated, data-driven approach to addressing housing challenges. While additional work remains, the Road to 10,000 has established a solid foundation for increasing housing opportunities, supporting economic competitiveness, and strengthening Greensboro neighborhoods. As we move forward, the City remains committed to building on this progress, pursuing innovative solutions, and working alongside community partners to ensure Greensboro remains a city where residents of all backgrounds can live, work, and thrive.
